NOALBS config generator

Answer a few questions and get the config.json that tells NOALBS when to switch OBS to your low and BRB scenes. Each step is checked as you go, so NOALBS starts first time.

    Where does your stream arrive?

Your phone or encoder streams to a server. NOALBS reads that server's stats page to see your bitrate, so it needs to know which one it is.

Only if you stream to more than one. NOALBS checks them in order and uses the first that has your stream.

    What NOALBS does

NOALBS (nginx OBS Automatic Low Bitrate Switching) watches the stats page of the server your IRL stream arrives at. When your bitrate falls below the low trigger it switches OBS to your low scene, when the stream drops it switches to your BRB scene, and when you're back it switches to live. It also gives your chat commands like !bitrate and !switch.

Set it up in four steps

    1. Download NOALBS

Get the latest release for your system from the NOALBS releases page and unzip it.

    2. Turn on the OBS WebSocket

In OBS, open Tools, WebSocket Server Settings, enable it and copy the password into the OBS step above.

    3. Save your config

Download config.json from this page and replace the one in the NOALBS folder. For Twitch chat, copy the .env lines into the .env file there.

    4. Run NOALBS

Start it and type !bitrate in your chat. If it answers, you're done.

Rather not run NOALBS yourself? A Cloud OBS server comes with disconnect protection already set up, on a server that's always on.

    Picking your triggers

The low trigger should sit well below your normal bitrate: if you stream at 6,000 kbps, 800 to 1,500 kbps is a good place to show a "connection is struggling" scene. The offline trigger catches a stream that's technically connected but barely moving, so set it lower, like 300 to 500. RTT triggers suit SRT and SRTLA, where a rising round-trip time is the first sign a link is about to drop.

Not sure what bitrate to stream at? Use the bitrate checker. Got a config that won't start? Paste it into the NOALBS config checker.

    FAQ

    NOALBS questions

Which version of NOALBS is this for?

NOALBS v2, the current version. It uses OBS WebSocket v5, which is built into OBS 28 and newer, on port 4455 by default.

What stats URL do I use for SRT Live Server?

Usually http://your-server:8181/stats, with the publisher set to the full stream ID you publish to, like publish/live/feed1. For BELABOX cloud, use the stats address from your BELABOX cloud page and your stream ID as the publisher.

    Does NOALBS work with Kick?

NOALBS can read Kick chat commands but can't reply in Kick chat. Pick Kick in the chat step and enter your Kick username and your channel and chatroom IDs.

Why won't NOALBS start with my config?

Usually a JSON mistake (a missing comma, a comment or a trailing comma) or a value in the wrong case, like "OBS" instead of "Obs". The config checker finds these and shows the line.

Where does the Twitch bot token go?

In the .env file next to config.json, as TWITCH_BOT_USERNAME and TWITCH_BOT_OAUTH. Never in config.json. Get the token with the Twitch chat token tool.

    Disconnect protection without the setup

A Cloud OBS server switches to BRB when your signal drops and back when it returns, with an SRTLA receiver built in.
